John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.(KJV)
Let us examine the verse
- Here we see that the Being of 'WORD' is expressed in past tense using 'WAS'
- We know that God exists from eternity to eternity
- Then Why is the WORD of GOD who himself is God has been expressed as being limited to past?
- First of all we have to understand that the Word of God spoken here is our Lord Jesus Christ.
John 1:14And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.(KJV)
Rev 19:11-13 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.
And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.(KJV) - Now if we break the verse in parts as:
In the Beginning - - Was the Word.
- The Word was with God.
- The Word was God.
- We see in part 1 that "In the beginning WAS the Word" and now He IS manifested as FLESH.
1 Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. (KJV) - In part 2 we see that "The Word WAS with God" and as per John 1:14 Word IS with US.
- And when the WORD is with US it also means GOD with US acc. to
Mat 1:22-23 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, GOD WITH US. (KJV) - In part 3 we see that "The Word WAS God". it can be said in other words that the Word was only God
- Now acc. to John 1:14, as soon as the Word became FLESH the WORD is not only God but IS also Man.
Hence we see that God the Son Jesus Christ our Saviour became man and dwelt among us, making us partakers of his righteousness.
