Greetings in the
wonderful name of Lord Yeshua our Messiah. I proclaim Shalom upon your lives in
the wonderful name of Lord Jesus Christ.
Today
we will meditate upon the book of Obadiah, a minor prophet of Israel. Obadiah
was a common name in the Hebrew language which means Servant of God. To understand
the theme of Obadiah, we have to remember the context of Genesis chapter 25 to
chapter 31. Abraham was called from the land of Ur to follow Lord God Jehovah;
he was blessed with many blessings and is known as Father of Believers in the body
of Christ. Abraham and Sarah bore Isaac which means laughter. Isaac was married
to Rebecca who gave birth to twins known as Esau and Jacob. Esau the elder one was
a good hunter and his descendants are known as Edomites. Jacob the younger one was a shepherd and his descendants are known as Israelites.
One
day when Esau came from the field and was tired, he sold his birthright to Jacob for
a red soup of Lentil. Esau despised his birthright. Later Jacob deceived his
brother Esau, took blessings from Isaac, and fled to Rebekah’s brother Laban at Haran.
There he served Laban for his two daughters Leah and Rachel. Jacob flees from Laban
recognizing deception and change in wages ten times. On his return journey Jacob
feared Esau, he wrestled with God, got a new name as ISRAEL. Jacob saw Esau
coming with four hundred men, bowed to the ground seven times, until Esau embraced
him, kissed him and they wept. Later Esau went to Seir and Jacob went to Sukkoth.
The
vision of Obadiah starts with the statement of Adonai Elohim against Edom, the
details of Esau’s descendants is given in Genesis Chapter 36. The first five
verses describe the nature of Sin i.e. arrogance of your heart has deceived you.
Due to which Adonai declares to Edom: I will bring you down.
From
verses 6 onwards to verses 9 the detailed nature of judgment thereby leading weakening
of Edom. Edom’s violence against Jacob is being described in verse 10 to 14
which implies a judgement of Adonai is done for all its wrong actions.
From
verse 15 onwards to the last verse i.e. 21st verse of the chapter, is
the prophecy for the millennial i.e. The day of Lord is near and the kingdom of
Heaven will one day be established on earth. These verses of prophecy are for us with a
warning that justice delayed is not an escape rather extra time given for
repentance, loving-kindness, compassion, and grace of the Lord upon Mankind.
Repent in the name of Lord Yeshua the Messiah and be saved.
The
battle is not ours, we are not required to fight, quarrel with people, groups
opposing us, persecuting us rather pray for their lives to receive truth and be
saved in name of Lord Yeshua our Messiah.
As
it is written; To whom ye forgive anything, I forgive also: for if I
forgave anything, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the
person of Christ; Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not
ignorant of his devices. (2 Corinthians 2:10-11)
Always.
Remember reply of Moses to the Israelites while crossing the Red Sea, in Exodus
chapter 14 verse 14: The Lord shall fight for you and ye shall hold your
peace.
